Wow, I have a blog. Wasn't really sure
this day would come. I am not an eloquent writer, nor do I really ever have
anything that exciting to share with the world, yet surprisingly enough I’ve
created one. It kind of makes me laugh. I hope you enjoy joining me in the
adventures that God is taking me on!
Why?!
Because this fall I am going to
Jinja, Uganda for three months – August 28th through November 28th.
Last summer I went to Botswana, Africa and had multiple people ask me if I was
planning on keeping a blog; which I didn’t. I was only there for 5 weeks, and
didn’t think I would have enough opportunities to update it to make it actually
worthwhile. However, three months is slightly more substantial. I am writing
this for all of you who are interested, and also for my parents – I know phone
calls will probably be not as frequent as they’d like, but hopefully they can
read this and know that through the stories and happenings that this path is
ultimately where God wants me!
I wanted to get this blog started
prior to my trip mainly because I wanted to be able to send out in my support
letters the link to this so people can keep up with my adventures in Uganda.
However, I also wanted to be able to share with you some more about how I came
upon going, how God really opened doors for this trip to happen, and some more
about my story prior to actually leaving! Well, let’s be honest, once I am
there I probably just won’t have time for background info:)
So where am I serving? EKISA
MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL
This is an orphanage for kids with disabilities! Whereas
there are numerous orphanages throughout Uganda, and Africa in general, Ekisa
offers a home to those children that many orphanages will not take and many
parents have a hard time loving. To say the least, I am so excited about this
opportunity! Please check out their website - here - for more information! Also, if you are reading this and would like a support
letter, please contact me (brb9p@virginia.edu) – I would love for you to be part of my team!
Here are a few pictures of just some of
the beautiful children at ekisa (taken from their website). From right to left: Amy, Arafat, Daniel, Debra, Jane, and Jason!
Stay tuned – as my next couple of
posts will lead up to how I came upon Ekisa! And how my support process is
going so far!
